Greenville Area Parkinson Society hires Executive Director

October 5, 2015

GREENVILLE, SC The Greenville Area Parkinson Society (GAPS) recently hired Tim Bishop as executive director. His role includes having overall strategic and operational responsibility for programs, funding and execution of its mission.

“We are thrilled to have Tim on board as executive director,” said Derek Stapleton, GAPS board chair. “His experience in the non-profit world will help elevate our organization by continuing to find ways of helping the thousands of people in the Upstate who are affected with Parkinson’s disease.”

Bishop brings 26 years of non-profit experience in fundraising, special events, development, operations, community relations, volunteer management and marketing to this position. He has also served in leadership roles at elementary, middle and high school PTA and School Improvement Councils. Prior to joining GAPS, Bishop was the director of museum development and membership at the Upcountry History Museum. He has also held positions with the Greenville Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement of Upstate South Carolina.

“GAPS is an organization that has a story to tell and I’m excited to help tell it,” said Bishop. “Over 5,000 people in the Upstate are affected by Parkinson’s disease – a statistic I don’t think many people realize. GAPS helps those and their families get the help they need whether that’s through support groups or seminars. I didn’t realize just how many people this disease affected and how important it is that they have somewhere to turn to for help. This is a disease that not only affects the person who has it, but also those around them.”

Bishop started in the Summer.
