Greenville Chamber announces 2020 Board, Max Metcalf named chair-elect

December 11, 2019

The Greenville Chamber’s leadership has elected Max Metcalf to chair its Board of Directors in 2021. He will take over the highest volunteer leadership role for the Greenville Chamber in January of 2021. Metcalf will serve as chair-elect throughout the next year and will be joined by eight new Board members in 2020.

Metcalf, Manager of Government and Community Relations at BMW Manufacturing Company, LLC, currently serves on the Board as the Vice Chair of Business Advocacy. He has served on the Greenville Chamber Board of Directors for four years.

Prior to his role at BMW, Metcalf served as the Vice President for Public Policy at the Greenville Chamber, where he championed causes such as the creation of the State Infrastructure Bank and earned a reputation as a partnership-minded leader able to build consensus on issues that promote economic opportunity, quality of life and sustainable growth for the region.

Metcalf replaces Kevin Poyck who had previously been tapped to lead the Board in 2021 before announcing his relocation out-of-state.

“I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to serve the Chamber membership and staff in a leadership role,” says Metcalf. “During the five years I worked at the Greenville Chamber of Commerce (1996-2000) leaders of the business community worked alongside the membership to take bold steps in developing a vision for the community’s future. That commitment by so many over the years is no doubt part of the formula that has allowed companies like my employer, BMW, to thrive in the Upstate. Our region is fortunate to have organizations like the Chamber leading the way in developing a stronger workforce, economic opportunity and advocating for public policy to clear a path for success for everyone.”

New to the Board in 2020 is Malcolm Isley, EVP, Chief Strategy Officer at Prisma Health – Upstate. He joins seven other new Board members previously announced, including Meliah Bowers Jefferson, Erwin Carter, Cal Hurst, John McDonough, Ramon Nieves Lugo, Dr. Jermaine Whirl and Will Whitley.

Rich Hagins, CEO of US&S, Inc., will chair the Board in 2020.

The Board of Directors is the policy-making body of the Greenville Chamber. Its members represent the business and professional leadership of the community. New members will begin January 2020. See the full 2020 Board of Directors roster here: greenvillechamber.org/board2020.
