GREENVILLE, SC – The American Heart Association and Bon Secours St. Francis Health System hosted a healthy cooking demonstration Monday, August 31 at the Huguenot Mill. The event offered over one hundred guests the chance to taste heart healthy dishes prepared by three local chefs.

The culinary talent featured three leading local chefs; Lamar Reddish of Augusta Grill, Cory Massa of The Trappe Door, and Jack Bunn of The Green Room. Each chef displayed their skills by creating a gourmet, heart-healthy meal for guests to enjoy.

The Chef Challenge event was sponsored by Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, a top ranked hospital in the Upstate.

Scott Pinion, Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist, with Bon Secours St. Francis Health System was excited to see the community come together for an evening of education and fun. “I’m amazed at the support in the community” said Pinion, “With heart disease being the leading cause of death, eating a heart-healthy diet has never been more important – or more delicious thanks to tonight’s chefs.”

All three chefs created delicious meals for guests to enjoy. Chef Cory Massa with The Trappe Door created a delicious Beet, Ginger and Garlic Soup topped with Fresh Basil Frozen Yogurt and Spiced Pumpkin Seed. Lamar Reddish with Augusta Grill prepared a Pan-Seared Salmon with a Horseradish Cream over a bed of Quinoa Risotto. And, Chef Jack Bunn with the Green Room prepared a Quinoa Salad with Roasted Cauliflower, Toasted Flack Seed, Arugula and Fresh Legumes tossed with a Red Pepper Vinaigrette and topped with Fresh Sprouts.

Chef Lamar Reddish of Augusta Grill stated, “We were honored to be a part of this fantastic event that promotes heart healthy eating in the Upstate community. Tonight’s demonstration proved that dining out can be both delicious and healthy. It is simply a matter of making the right choices.”

This was the first healthy cooking demonstration that the American Heart Association and Bon Secours St. Francis Health System have hosted together. It was a free event serving residents and businesses in the Greenville community. It aimed at showcasing local talent while promoting healthy eating.
