Greenville Literacy Association announces dates for 2025 Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale

June 25, 2025

The Greenville Literacy Association (GLA) will host its 24th annual Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale at McAlister Square on Saturday, August 9, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, August 10, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. A Kick-Off Party will take place on Thursday, August 7, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $50 each or $90 per couple and can be purchased online at greenvilleliteracy.org. Desserts, drinks, and music are included in the ticket price. Light bites will be provided by AlecZondra Walker, a recent GLA GED graduate and student speaker, through her catering business, Soulful Souls. Proceeds from the Kick-Off Party and Book Sale benefit GLA’s adult education programs.

“We are pleased to welcome the community back to McAlister Square for the 24th annual Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale,” said GLA Executive Director Victoria Novak. “Improving adult literacy is a significant step toward eliminating poverty in our community. By supporting this event, you help expand access to GED and ESL programs that change lives.”

This year, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is the proud sponsor of the Sunday Bag Day Sale, reinforcing the vital connection between early childhood and adult literacy. Studies show that children with parents who struggle to read are more likely to face literacy challenges themselves. “When we strengthen adult literacy, we uplift entire families—ensuring that parents can support their children’s learning journeys from the start,” said Novak.

In Greenville County alone, nearly 45,000 adults ages 25–64 lack a high school diploma, and more than 25,000 adults cannot speak English fluently. GLA provides education and college and career skills services to adults who strive to complete their GED, become fluent in English, and earn digital literacy and workforce readiness certificates. GLA serves all students no matter their learning or income level.
