Greenville Nonprofits Talk Fundraising at Shine the Light

November 30, 2014

GREENVILLE, SC – DNA Creative Communications (DNA), in partnership with the Hollingsworth Funds, the Community Foundation of Greenville, United Way of Greenville County, The Graham Foundation, The Daniel-Mickel Foundation and the Jolley Foundation recently hosted “Leading for Sustainability,” the final session of the 2014 Shine the Light Nonprofit Forums (STL) Leadership Academy.

“A huge thank you to my community partners for making this year’s Leadership Academy a success. With their support I was able to bring four outstanding national speakers to Greenville to share their nonprofit expertise.  More than 150 local nonprofit leaders participated in one or more of the sessions,” shared Debbie Nelson, President of DNA and founder of STL. “I am in the midst of planning our 2015 curriculum and look forward to announcing our programming in early January.”

On November 19th nearly 100 nonprofit leaders gather at the Kroc Center to hear national speaker Kathy Hedge. Kathy serves as the Executive Director of Parent Encouragement Program, a nonprofit organization in the Washington DC area. She brought more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, strategic planning and board development to the Shine the Light audience. The inspiration for her presentation was her recent book Engaging Your Board in Fundraising: A Staff’s Guide, which was published by BoardSource in early 2014. Her platform is to provide nonprofit professionals with the tools to incorporate board members into the fundraising process.

In addition to Kathy’s keynote, a panel of local leaders shared some personal fundraising success stories. Panelists included:

    • Ann Robinson, Senior VP at Park Sterling Bank
    • Bill Tiller, President and CEO of Make A Wish South Carolina
    • Coby Hennecy, Executive Director of the South Carolina ETV Endowment
