Greenville Tech PTA Students Light the Night

GREENVILLE, SC – October 30, 2009 – Greenville Technical College’s senior Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) students gave back to the community during October, which is National Physical Therapy Month, volunteering to help manage the “Light the Night” walk. The walk is sponsored by the South Carolina Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to fight blood cancers and was held October 8 at Furman University.

Of the 24 PTA students, nine have been affected this year by a cancer diagnosis. For some students, this was a personal diagnosis and for others, the disease affected a loved one. Thus, the “Light the Night” walk was chosen as an event that would be a great way to show commitment to the group, the profession, and the community.

“This is a staggering statistic among our small group of students,” says Alicia Dittmar, PTA Program Director at Greenville Tech. “I am so proud of these amazing students who will be amazing PTA clinicians. Not only did they remain in the program and pull together to help each other through a trying year, but they also found time to give to others.”
