Greenville Tech students capture SkillsUSA honors

GREENVILLE, SC – April 11, 2011 – Greenville Technical College students captured honors in the SkillsUSA South Carolina competition held March 31-April 2, 2011, at the Carolina First
Center and Greenville Technical College.

First place winners from Greenville Tech were:

  • Alicia Hunter, Nail Care
  • Shannon Black, Cosmetology
  • Larry Cameron, Masonry
  • Samuel Raiden, Plumbing
  • Michael Davis, Precision Machining
  • Gary Lofton, CNC Turning
  • George Bishara, CNC Milling
  • Justin Ballenger, HVACR
  • Travis Fowler, Welding Sculpture
  • Joshua Sarratt, Jimmy L. Klugh, and Timothy W. Earle, Welding Fabrication
  • Team Daniel Yarbrough, Aviation Maintenance Technology

In addition, Greenville Tech winners included:

  • Gordon Hersherberger, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Second Place
  • Ben Styles, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Third Place
  • Michael Morency, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Fourth Place

First place winners will now be eligible to compete in the National SkillsUSA competition to be held in Kansas, Mo, June 20-25, 2011.

SkillsUSA Championship

The SkillsUSA Championship is the national-level competition for public high school and college/postsecondary technical students enrolled in trade, technical, and skilled service professional instructional programs including allied health occupations. Each SkillsUSA Championship contestant is a state-level gold medalist. Begun in 1967, the SkillsUSA Championship hasgrown from 54 competitors in three contests to more than 5,400 competitorsin 91 hands-on skills and leadership contests this year.
