Greenville Technical Charter High School celebrates 25th Anniversary and names community leaders as Charter Champions

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, the media is invited to join Greenville Technical Charter High School (GTCHS) in celebrating its 25th Anniversary and honoring Representative Jason Elliott and Fred Crawford, visionary former principal at GTCHS from 2002 -2012, as GTCHS’ 2024 Charter Champions .  As Rita Pierson says, “Every child deserves a Champion.”  GTCHS Charter Champions are community leaders who believe in the power of school choice, who are committed to ensuring that every child has a quality option for free, public education and who are persistent in their efforts to improve the outcomes for our children.

GTCHS was the vision of Dr. Thomas E. Barton, Jr., and is the first charter school in the state of South Carolina. GTCHS is also the first Charter School in the state to achieve Palmetto’s Finest, the National Blue Ribbon Award, and to be recognized as a “Model Charter School” by the Building Hope Foundation (2023). It is currently ranked Excellent on the SC Department of Education State Report Card, and Niche.com lists the school as  the #1 best charter school in South Carolina and #5 in the list of top public high schools in the state.
