Grant will support scholarships for students enrolled in Quick Jobs

GREENVILLE, SC – Greenville Technical College announced a $50,000 grant from Wells Fargo & Company. The donation will be used to support scholarships for students enrolled in Quick Jobs with a Future programs and for professional development for instructors teaching at the Center for Manufacturing Innovation (CMI). In recognition of this gift, the theater at the CMI, where groups will gather to watch videos and hear presentations, has been named the Wells Fargo Theater.

“The success of a city’s workforce is a critical element in keeping our communities strong and vibrant, and Wells Fargo is committed to supporting organizations that provide individuals with the skills and resources needed to flourish professionally and personally,” said Wells Fargo Upstate Market President Brian Rogers. “We are proud to help Greenville Technical College improve the quality of life for their students and thank them for their work to ensure a brighter tomorrow for all of us.”

Quick Jobs programs allow students to quickly gain the skills needed to start in a career field that is currently hiring in Greenville County. Most of the students are unemployed, underemployed or in need of new skills to assure continued employment.

The Center for Manufacturing Innovation is designed to close the skills gap that has hampered growth in manufacturing, an economic powerhouse for the Upstate. This one-stop-shop for manufacturing industries will offer a unique environment for educating the manufacturing workforce of the future as it showcases the careers and technology in this sector, attracting younger students and career changers to rewarding professions.

“We are grateful to the Wells Fargo Foundation for support over many years that benefits our students and through increased educational levels, our community,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “With scholarship funds to help students gain skills and professional development funds to ensure that we provide the highest quality education, this Wells Fargo gift is supporting our efforts to help students find success.”
