March 31, 2023

Anna Romano, a Greenville Technical College (GTC) student, has been named a 2023 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program by recognizing 50 gold, 50 silver, and 50 bronze scholars with nearly $200,000 in scholarships awarded annually.

Romano will graduate from the Human Services program at GTC in May, earning a cumulative GPA of 3.78. She plans to transfer her credits and pursue a bachelor’s degree in Human Services, with hopes to remain in Greenville after completion and connect people with affordable housing and mental health resources.

“The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding students at community colleges,” said Jane Hale Hopkins, president of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa to make it possible for more deserving students to achieve their educational goals and support tomorrow’s leaders of the global community.”

Students are nominated for the academic team by their college administrators. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service. This year, there were more than 2,400 applications.

“We thank the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation for recognizing these student leaders and for investing in their futures,” said Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, President and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa. “Scholarships like these are integral to the success of these students in reaching their educational and career goals.”

Phi Theta Kappa recognizes and encourages scholarship, leadership, and service among the students in two-year colleges in America. To accomplish this purpose, the group provides opportunities to develop leadership and service, an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and ideals, stimulation of interest in continued academic excellence, and fellowship.

“Recognition as a Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar is a significant accomplishment,” said Dr. Larry Miller, vice president of learning and workforce development at GTC. “Anna Romano has made important contributions on campus and in the community while at Greenville Technical College, and we look forward to watching her excel as she moves forward with her education and career.”
