Greenville Technical College welcomes Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant

GREENVILLE, SC – Carina “Belén” Munoz has ben awarded a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program grant to serve as a teaching assistant for this year at Greenville Technical College.

In her native Argentina, Munoz teaches English to students who are preparing to take English proficiency exams. At Greenville Technical College, she is working with Spanish instructors to introduce her country to local students. She offers presentations about Argentina to classrooms, to faculty at departmental meetings, and to the community through Hispanic Heritage Month and Upstate International presentations.

Munoz is one of over 400 young educators from 50 countries who are travelling to the U.S. during the 2015-16 academic year through the Fulbright FLTA Program to help internationalize U.S. colleges and universities. This assists institutions as they prepare students for a globalized workforce and world. Recipients of Fulbright FLTA grants are selected based on academic achievement, professional accomplishments, and leadership potential. Fulbright FLTA scholarships are awarded by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

In the coming year, grant recipients from East Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, the Middle East and North Africa, South and Central Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa will contribute to U.S. students’ foreign language acquisition in more than 30 languages at over 200 U.S. institutions.
