Greenville Triumph Unified Team kicks off second season with tryouts at Eastside YMCA

The Greenville Triumph Unified Team, a program to unite individuals with and without intellectual disabilities through the Special Olympics Sports program, hosted tryouts for its second season at the Eastside YMCA in Taylors, SC. More than 15 individuals between the ages of 13-30 participated in the session, demonstrating their skills and enthusiasm for the opportunity to join the team.
“We were thrilled to see so may terrific athletes show up and showcase their talents,” said Rick Wright, Greenville Triumph Head Coach and Technical Director. “Our Unified Team is about building a sense of community and creating unforgettable experiences for everyone involved. Today, those memories began, and we’re excited to see what this group will accomplish together.”
Following tryouts, the coaching staff—comprised of Triumph and Liberty coaches and dedicated volunteers—selected players for the 2025 Unified Team roster. The team will celebrate with a signing day, then begin preparations for their upcoming matches against the USL Unified Team tournament held in Columbia, South Carolina on September 13-15, 2025.
Additional training sessions will be held on the following dates:
- May 1st – 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- May 15th – 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- May 29th – 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- June 12th – 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE GREENVILLE TRIUMPH AND GREENVILLE LIBERTY
The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club, based in Greenville, South Carolina, fields a men’s professional soccer club playing its sixth season in USL League One, the third division of American professional soccer. The club is a three-time finalist and 2020 USL League One Champion. The Greenville Liberty, a women’s pre-professional team, played its inaugural season in the USL W League in 2022.

Created in partnership with Special Olympics South Carolina, this team brings together individuals with unique talents to practice for a scrimmage match with another USL Unified team.
