Grant funds and in-kind assistance to help promote river recreation and water quality monitoring

GREENVILLE, SC – Upstate Forever is pleased to announce that Greenville Water will support the conservation group’s four-year initiative “Reconnecting People to Rivers.”

“Greenville Water is committed to work with Upstate Forever in raising the community’s awareness of protecting our natural waterways and the importance of keeping them clean,” said David Bereskin, CEO of Greenville Water.

Greenville Water’s $10,000 grant will support a number of projects, including river festivals and the creation of both printed and online maps of local river segments to help citizens access recreation opportunities on the Upstate’s waterways. The initiative is also engaging families and community groups in protecting the health of local waterways by providing training and support for volunteer water quality monitors.

The utility has committed an additional $5,000 in in-kind support, such as providing storage for water monitoring supplies and meeting space.

“’Reconnecting People to Rivers’ is cultivating a stronger appreciation for our limited water resources and the ecological richness of our rivers in the Upstate region of South Carolina,” said Van Whitehead, Deputy Director of Upstate Forever.

“In supporting this Initiative, Greenville Water has advanced a vital regional goal of clean water and joins the Callie and John Rainey Foundation, Duke Energy Foundation, TD Charitable Foundation, Spartanburg Water, and Spartanburg County Foundation in their commitment to a future of responsible stewardship of the Upstate’s precious waters,” Whitehead said.
