Greenville Women Giving embarks on 15th season of giving

September 8, 2020

These days everyone could use a good reason to celebrate. Residents of Greenville County have a wonderful opportunity on Thursday, September 17 when Greenville Women Giving (GWG) officially kicks off its fifteenth season of giving. Founded in 2006 as a philanthropic women’s collective giving organization, GWG has awarded 123 grants totaling over $6.5 million to non-profit organizations serving Greenville County.

“The quality of life in Greenville County has been profoundly enriched as a result of the grants that Greenville Women Giving has funded and allocated,” says Bob Morris, President of the Community Foundation of Greenville County. “Helping our most vulnerable creates a better tomorrow for everyone.”

Greenville Women Giving funds grants in each of five core areas: the arts, the environment, education, health, and human services. Last spring, GWG awarded a total of $541,844 in grant funding to seven non-profit organizations in Greenville County. Grants are fully funded by the contributions of Greenville Women Giving members, which currently stands at more than 500.

Typically, members gather at a local event space to celebrate the launch of each season. This year’s gathering will be held virtually on Zoom and is open to non-members who wish to learn more about GWG. There is no cost to attend.

Through a combination of live and pre-recorded video, participants will learn about an upcoming education event and plans for the coming year, and hear directly from three 2020 grantees regarding how their funds are being implemented.

All GWG events through January 2021 will be held virtually. Those scheduled for later in 2021 are currently being planned as in-person events with the ability to change each one to virtual if necessary.
