Greenville Women Giving turns “Sweet 16”

September 14, 2021

On Tuesday, September 21, Greenville Women Giving (GWG) officially kicks off its sixteenth season of giving. Since its founding in 2006, GWG has awarded 134 grants totaling over $7 million to 86 non-profit organizations serving Greenville County.

To commemorate the outstanding contributions of this women’s collective giving organization, the City of Greenville will officially proclaim September 21, 2021, as Greenville Women Giving Day. The proclamation ceremony will take place during GWG’s Annual Kickoff event that evening.

“Every citizen of Greenville is better off today because of the past 15 years of generosity and hard work of Greenville Women Giving,” said Greenville Mayor Knox White. “Their contributions to our community are beyond measure and I wish them every success in the years to come.”

Also planned for the “Sweet 16” Kickoff event are personal testimonies shared by individuals who have been directly impacted by a GWG non-profit grant recipient.

Each year, Greenville Women Giving funds grants in each of five areas: arts, education, environment, health, and human services. Earlier this year, GWG awarded a total of $550,000 in grant funding to 11 non-profit organizations to support them during a particularly challenging year.

Grants are funded by the contributions of Greenville Women Giving’s more than 500 members, who also vote to determine the recipients.

Membership in Greenville Women Giving is open to all women who commit to the annual contribution. For information about membership, upcoming events, and grants, please visit greenvillewomengiving.org or follow GWG on Facebook (@GreenvilleWomen) and Instagram [greenvillewomengiving]
