Greenville Zoo Foundation announces title sponsor of annual 5K

February 24, 2016

The Greenville Zoo Foundation today announced Pelham Medical Center as the title sponsor of the 2016 Zoom Through the Zoo, which will take place on Saturday, April 2. Approximately 400 runners are expected to participate in the Greenville Zoo Foundation’s annual fundraiser, which is celebrating its third year and has the distinction of being the only 5K with a race course through the Greenville Zoo. Additional sponsors include MY 102.5 and Engenius.

According to Greenville Zoo Foundation Chair Bill West, events like Zoom Through the Zoo and sponsors like Pelham Medical Center help the foundation fulfill its mission to serve the community and support the Greenville Zoo from both a financial and an advocacy standpoint. “Pelham Medical Center has been a wonderful community partner and we are grateful for their support,” said West. “We are also grateful for the community’s participation in our events and we look forward to hosting our biggest and best 5K yet.”

The race begins at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude with a brief awards ceremony at 9:30 a.m., followed by a family-friendly celebration. The 5K awards will include zoo memberships and unique artwork created by zoo residents. The deadline to register is March 31 at noon and participants who register before March 15 will receive a t-shirt. A portion of each registration fee will be donated to the Amur Leopard and Tiger Alliance, which is part of the Greenville Zoo’s Quarters for Conservation program.

In 2015, Pelham Medical Center partnered with the Greenville Zoo to launch a new initiative called the Wellness Walkway, as part of an ongoing effort by the zoo to encourage families to spend more time outdoors. “It’s great to be part of this fun and family-friendly event,” said Pelham Medical Center President Tony Kouskolekas. “Pelham Medical Center is dedicated to the wellness of our Upstate families and Zoom Through the Zoo provides us with another amazing opportunity to celebrate wellness and support the programs of the Greenville Zoo.”
