Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity teams with Lowe’s for Westside Revitalization Blitz

GREENWOOD, SC – Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity has joined forces with Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers from 14 Upstate stores in a first of its kind daylong blitz to revitalize Greenwood’s Westside neighborhood.
On Tuesday, May 24, store teams will work across the Westside neighborhood to complete projects such as home repairs, installing neighborhood signs and cleaning up the local community center. These projects will support the work that Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity does in a continued partnership with the Westside community. The work will also support a yearlong effort between Habitat for Humanity International and Lowe’s to help 1,000 families build or repair their homes by the holidays.
Greenwood Area Habitat has a longstanding relationship with the Westside neighborhood, and has previously built 17 homes in the community. They are also actively involved in community efforts to improve the neighborhood’s quality of life. This daylong neighborhood revitalization blitz is an opportunity to address many of these quality of life issues.
This project is made possible by a $70,000 grant from Lowe’s. Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity is one of only 19 Habitat affiliates across the country to receive Lowe’s support of their community revitalization project, and the only affiliate in South Carolina to do so.
Kickoff for the blitz begins at 8 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, located at 418 Marion Avenue, one of several churches in the neighborhood. Work will wrap up at approximately 4 p.m.

Lowe’s awarded $1.5 million in grants to 19 Habitat for Humanity organizations across the country to support more than 400 community projects as part of Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization program, an effort to serve more families through community development partnerships. A national partner since 2003, Lowe’s has committed more than $63 million to Habitat for Humanity and helped more than 5,500 families improve their living conditions.
