GTC Student Nurses’ Association wins six state awards

Greenville Technical College’s Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) won six awards at its annual state convention held Jan. 10-12 in Columbia. The student organization representing the college’s Nursing program was recognized for 2019 achievements, and two students were selected for individual scholarship awards. 

  • Octavia Frazile, won a $500 scholarship and the Breakthrough to Nursing Award. This scholarship is designed to help deserving minority students enrolled in an accredited nursing program manage unexpected educational expenses.
  • Hanna Hopkins, GTC SNA president, received a $500 scholarship and the President Scholarship Award.
  • Elizabeth Emory and Aspen Wale received the Outstanding Community Health Participants Award for coordinating the GTC Community Health Fair, held in conjunction with the college’s Community Fest in October.
  • GTC’s SNA also won the Most New Constituents Award and the Largest Can Tab Donation Award, given to the school who donates the most drink can tabs to its local Ronald McDonald House.

Faculty advisors Sallie Beth Todd and Norma Newsom accompanied the 10 student GTC SNA board members to the convention. Nine of the 10 students qualified to serve as delegates. Students attended business meetings, multiple focus sessions and had the opportunity to network with future employers.
