Habitat for Humanity celebrates completion of Michelin/Greenville Technical College Build

May 5, 2016

GREER, SC – Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County, Michelin, and Greenville Technical College celebrated several milestones together on Wednesday, May 4, with the completion of the first home of the 2016 season.

Habitat Greenville’s long-time Habitat partner, Michelin, has partnered to build ten homes. While Greenville Tech President Keith Miller has been a participant in all three of Habitat Greenville’s CEO Builds, GTC students and administrators joined in this project as well, helping raise funds and build the home. This build also marks Habitat’s return to Greer for the first time in two years. In addition to the partnership between Michelin and Greenville Tech, this build was made possible in part by a grant from Greer State Bank.

However, the greatest milestone on Wednesday was that reached by the Chappell family. After more than a year of preparation for homeownership through financial readiness classes and sweat equity, Yanti Chappell and her four children now have a home to call their own, that will help them build stability, strength, self-reliance.

Thursday’s dedication took place at 11:30 a.m. at the build site, located at 212 Brown Street in Greer. Monroe Free, President and CEO of Habitat Greenville, said, “The dedication is such an important moment for our families. It shows them that their hard work in our program has paid off, and they finally get to begin their lives in the home that they have earned. We are grateful to again work with our partners, Michelin and Greenville Tech, to help another family attain affordable homeownership.”
