Habitat Greenville kicks off 2017 Faith Build

On Thursday, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County raised the walls on the 2017 Faith Build home, celebrating a longstanding partnership with faith communities in the Golden Strip and surrounding areas.
The home is being built for the Youngblood family. As a Habitat Greenville program participant, homeowner Nicole Youngblood will complete 20 hours of homeownership education classes. She will also complete 200 hours of “sweat equity,” building her home and the homes of other Habitat homeowners alongside volunteers from the church partners and other organizations. She will pay an affordable mortgage for the home.
This home was made possible through the generosity of the partners participating in the Faith Build and Golden Strip Church Coalition, a group of local churches that support the mission of Habitat through donations and volunteering. This year’s Build participants include Advent United Methodist, Aldersgate United Methodist, Brookwood, Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist, Christ the King Lutheran, Earle Street Baptist, Emmanuel United Church of Christ, First Baptist of Mauldin, Fountain Inn Presbyterian, Grace Covenant Presbyterian, Holy Cross Episcopal, Immanuel Lutheran, John Knox Presbyterian, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Messiah Lutheran, The Southern Connector, St. Mary Magdalene Catholic, St. Michael Lutheran, St. Peter’s Episcopal and Trinity Lutheran. Many of these churches are longtime partners with Habitat.
Thursday’s wall raising is a significant milestone in a family’s journey to home ownership. During the event, sponsors, partners, and volunteers have the opportunity to write encouraging messages to the family on the beams of the wall, which will then become part of the home during construction.
