Habitat Greenville and Lowe’s celebrate National Women’s Build Week

In celebration of National Women Build Week, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County and Lowe’s Home Improvement are teaming up to address and advocate for affordable homeownership for women, one nail at a time.
On Saturday, May 13, female employees from Lowe’s Cherrydale will spend a day volunteering alongside women representing Greenville City Council, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations. They will work on the latest Habitat home being built, a home in Greenville’s Grace Point community for Aquata Woodruff and her four children.
“The women who volunteer on Habitat build sites are some of our strongest advocates for affordable homeownership,” said Monroe Free, President & CEO of Habitat Greenville. “Aquata is also a fierce advocate for affordable housing as the pathway to her family’s future, and we’re honored that the 2017 Women’s Build will help her reach those dreams.”
Habitat Greenville’s Women Build week began with a previous event on Saturday, May 6, in Simpsonville.
National Women Build Week is an initiative that invites women to devote at least one day to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership. The week is meant to spotlight the homeownership challenges faced by women. Since the program’s inception, over 98,000 women in all 50 states have participated. Lowe’s has partnered with Habitat for Humanity International on this and other initiatives since 2003.

We are helping to build homes everyone can take pride in—our employees, the volunteers, the partner families and the communities,” said Larry Stone, chairman of Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation.
