Hammond students win several academic and athletic state championships

April 22, 2019

Hammond, an independent school offering students pre-kindergarten through grade 12 a thoughtfully developed academic experience, announces that its students of varying ages have won seven state championships this spring.

  • The varsity wrestling team won the South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA) state championship on Feb. 2, 2019.
  • The western equestrian team won the SCISA state championship on March 30, 2019.
  • The hunt seat equestrian team won the SCISA state championship on April 7, 2019.
  • The upper school math team earned first place in the SCISA Division 1 State High School Math Meet competition on January 23, 2019.
  • Lower and middle school students in the Chess Plus program won first place at the SCISA tournament on April 2, 2019.

All of these wins are on the heels of Hammond’s varsity football SCISA state championship win on Nov. 17, 2018. The boys varsity swim team, girls varsity competition cheer and boys varsity basketball teams each also earned positions as SCISA state championship runners-up. Many of these teams were honored this spring for their accomplishments at the South Carolina State House.
