Hanahan High’s Timko Elected State PTA President

MONCKS CORNER, SC – Donna Timko, registered nurse and Health Science teacher at Hanahan High School, has been elected to be the next President of the Parent Teacher Association for the state of South Carolina.

Timko is a long-term member of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), first in North Carolina, then in South Carolina, after moving to the state twelve years ago. She served both on the local, and state levels of the PTA and she is currently the State PTA’s Health and Wellness Committee Chair. Timko provides training and continues to advocate for all children in South Carolina to promote wellness.

As president, Timko is committing to five-years of service. During the first two years, Timko will train under current State PTA President and Dorchester County Board Member, Tanya Robinson. Afterward she will serve as president for two years with the fifth and final year being one in which she will act as a mentor.

This year Timko will serve as Chairman for the annual convention committee for next year’s South Carolina PTA State Convention. The convention will be in Charleston and will be hosted by Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester County Schools.

“I am honored to be chosen to lead such a group of dedicated and compassionate individuals. The PTA is the oldest advocating organization for education and the children of our state. I embrace what the future holds and look forward to the opportunity to work with other PTA leaders and Superintendent Spearman, in achieving our legislative platform. Through obtaining full funding for base student costs, increasing teacher pay and closing the student achievement gap, we will further elevate the already high standards of our educational system in South Carolina,” Timko said.
