Harbison Theatre hosts children’s favorite Pinkalicious – April 22

April 12, 2023

Harbison Theatre invites families and fans of all ages to join Columbia Children’s Theatre for two performances of Pinkalicious on Saturday, April 22.

Based on the popular book character by Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann, this is the tale of Pinkalicious, who can’t stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Pinkalicious’ indulgence lands her at the doctor’s office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe–a dream come true for this pink-loving enthusiast. Alas Pinkalicious needs a way out of her pink predicament, and joined by her family they find unity and appreciation in the quirks that define us all.

“On the surface it’s a simple story – but there are many layers for those who know where to look,” says Artistic Director Jerry Stevenson. “To kids in the audience, it’s an entertaining way to impress upon them the benefits of healthy eating, but parents are also reminded to not get so caught up in their responsibilities that they lose touch with what’s going on in their children’s lives.”

Pinkalicous is a CCT Mainstage production featuring a talented cast of professional actors. Longtime CCT followers will recognize a number of CCT staffers in the cast list, with Education Director Paul Lindley (Mr. Pinkerton/Bee) and Operations Director Sadie Carr (Dr. Wink/Allison/Butterfly), and Mandy Applegate (Mrs. Pinkerton/Butterfly) bringing their talents to the production. The production also features former YouTheatre favorites Liv Moody (Pinkalicious) and Rye Winecoff (Peter/Bird).

“We’ve had the opportunity to introduce multiple generations of young people to Pinkalicious and it’s always a hit,” says Lindley. “It’s interesting to look back on our own relationships to the work. Many years ago, I played Peter, but now I’m a father playing Mr. Pinkerton! It’s given me a whole new perspective on it.”

Tickets and additional information are available at HarbisonTheatre.org or by calling the box office at 803.407.5011.
