Hartsville-Coker Concert Association to present Organ Recital by Don Grice

February 10, 2016

On Feb. 22, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., the Hartsville-Coker Concert Association will present organist Don Grice in a recital at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church.

Grice, director of music and senior organist at Central United Methodist Church in Florence, SC, will perform on the Casavant Frères Ltée. organ installed at St. Bartholomew’s in 1988 under the supervision of Ken Wilmot, former director of music at St. Bartholomew’s and faculty member at Coker College.

“We are so lucky to have an organist like Don, with an international reputation, living only 30 minutes from Hartsville,” said Candace Holcombe, music director at St. Bartholomew’s. “We’re also hoping that his recital will help us raise the profile of our organ restoration campaign. Our beautiful instrument is almost 30 years old and is in need of some work to keep it singing.”

Grice, a native of Canada, has performed extensively in Canada, the United States and Great Britain and has been heard in regional and national broadcasts of CBC Radio. His various solo and collaborative roles include a recital at the national convention of the Royal Canadian College of Organists and concert work with the Arizona Choir, the Winnipeg Bach Festival, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s New Music Festival and the Westminster Concert Organ Series. Grice is an Associate of the Royal Canadian College of Organists.

This is the fourth of five events forming the Hartsville-Coker Concert Association’s 2015-16 season. The remaining event is an urban Latin dance performance by Contra-Tiempo on April 19. The Hartsville-Coker Concert Association has been bringing guest performers to the Hartsville community for 70 years.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church on Campus Drive in Hartsville. Admission at the door is $25 for adults or free for anyone under 18 or with a valid student I.D.
