Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd Adds Andrea Brisbin to Healthcare Team

Governmental and Private Sector Lawyer joins Charleston office

CHARLESTON, SC – June 12, 2012 – Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. hasexpanded its healthcare practice with the addition of Andrea HeffernanBrisbin who joined the firm May 23rd as Special Counsel.Based in the firm’s Charleston office, Ms. Brisbin joins one of thestate’s largest law firms and its group of attorneys dedicated toserving the healthcare industry. She represents a broad spectrum ofhealthcare providers, including hospital systems, long-term careservices, physician practices, and other healthcare facilities, inmatters involving such issues as facility and professional licensure,certificate of need, reimbursement, and provider transactions andoperations.  In addition, Ms. Brisbin brings her extensive experiencewith health regulation policy and will work closely with HaynsworthSinkler Boyd’s governmental relations subsidiary, Copper DomeStrategies, LLC to meet clients’ needs.

In 1994, Ms. Brisbin began her legal career working as a civilianlitigator for the United States Department of the Navy for four years,then as an Assistant Attorney General in the Maryland Office of theAttorney General (1998-2000) serving as counsel to health professionallicensing boards.  Utilizing her federal and state governmentexperience, she entered private practice in South Carolina in 2000,first with a Charleston-based litigation firm and then with thegovernment and public policy practice group of a regional law firm.  Ms.Brisbin has served as the Chair and a Council Member of the S.C. BarHealth Care Law Section.

A member of the American Health Lawyers Association and DRI (DefenseResearch Institute, Inc.), Ms. Brisbin is a member of the South CarolinaBar and its Health Care Law Section; Charleston County and American BarAssociations, and the South Carolina Defense Trial LawyersAssociation.  She is admitted to practice in South Carolina andMaryland, the U.S. District Courts for the Districts of South Carolinaand Maryland, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and EleventhCircuits.

A James Island, S.C., resident, Ms. Brisbin received her J.D. in 1993from the Columbus School of Law, The Catholic University of America,where she served as Lead Articles Editor of The Catholic University LawReview, and her B.A., magna cum laude, in English from Boston College in1990.
