Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd Adds Attorneys in Greenville and Charleston

CHARLESTON, COLUMBIA, FLORENCE AND GREENVILLE, SC – NOVEMBER 21, 2008 – Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. is pleased to announce that Bonnie E. Allen, Kenneth N. (Ken) Shaw and Adam N. Yount have joined the law firm as associate attorneys.

src=img/AllenBonnie.jpgBased in the law firm’s Greenville office, Bonnie Allen, an associate attorney, is concentrating her practice on Business Litigation and Products Liability.

The Spartanburg native received her J.D., cum laude, in 2008 from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she received CALI Awards in Torts II, Civil Procedure II, Sales, And Real Estate Transactions II, and was on the Dean’s List. She was also a member of the Southeastern Environmental Law Journal and Wig and Robe Honor Society, and active in Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity and the USC Law Mentor Program.

In 2005, Allen received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Wofford College, in Business Economics and Government where she was on the Dean’s List. She was the recipient of the Matthew A. Stephenson Department Award for Economics; Government Department Award; Wofford Outstanding Citizen Award; and the William Light Kinney Freshman Delegate Award. Allen served also as chairman and vice-chairman of the Academic Honor Council and was a member of the Student Government Association.

While attending college, Allen served as student assistant to The Honorable Henry F. Floyd, a Federal District Court Judge in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She also was a summer law clerk at Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd’s Greenville office. In addition, her legal background includes a clerkship in the South Carolina Office of the Attorney General: Securities Division.

Admitted to practice in South Carolina in 2008, Allen is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, Greenville Bar Association, and Professionals United for Leadership and Social Enrichment (PULSE).

src=img/ShawKen.jpgKen Shaw has joined the Greenville office of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., as an associate attorney, and is focusing on corporate litigation with emphasis on personal injury defense, construction litigation, insurance-coverage disputes, and products liability actions. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Florida State University College of Law in 2008, where he was Administrative Editor, Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law. His legal background includes clerking for law firms in Tampa and Tallahassee, while attending law school. Admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2008, Shaw is a member of the American Bar and Greenville Bar Associations.

Shaw, who split his time growing up between Forest City, NC, and North Myrtle Beach, SC, earned a B.A. in Economics and Industrial Relations from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1991. Prior to attending law school, Shaw’s business experience included being general manager of the Riverside Paper Company in Tampa and Orlando, a sales representative for a consumer products company and a branch manager for Bank South.

As an associate attorney, he is focusing on insurance defense and coverage, personal injury, and product and premises liability actions. He is a member of the American Bar and the Charleston County Bar Associations and is admitted to practice in South Carolina, and
the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.

In 2007, Yount received his J.D., from the Charleston School of Law where he served as a Senator in the Student Bar Association and was a member of the 2007 Wechsler National Moot Court Team. He received the “Student Bar Association Best Senator of the Year Award” and was a recipient of the Pro Bono Service Award.

His legal background includes clerkship with the South Carolina Circuit Court, Fourteenth Judicial Circuit, with The Honorable Perry M. Buckner III. Yount also clerked in the Charleston County Public Defender’s Office and served as an intern in the United States District Court, District of South Carolina, for The Honorable Robert S. Carr, U.S. Magistrate Judge.

A native of Southport, NC, Yount is a 2001 graduate of Clemson University where he received his B.A. in Economics with a minor in Business Administration. He was named the “Kappa-Upsilon Senior of the Year.”

Active in the community, Yount’s volunteer efforts are with the Habitat for Humanity, Schools Out and the Preservation Society of Charleston.
