Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd Attorney re-Elected to National Bar Association

GREENVILLE, SC – September 15, 2008 – Rosalyn H. Mattingly, Special Counsel at Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., was re-elected to the National Bar Association’s Board of Governors as an Affiliate Representative at the organization’s 83rd annual convention in Houston, Texas, held July 26 – August 2, 2008.  The Greenville, SC attorney and former Alabama judge also was elected Deputy Regional Director of Region IV, which comprises all the chapters in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.  Mattingly, in addition, was elected to serve on the Healthcare Law Section Executive Board as an Advisor.

At the national convention, Mattingly completed a National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) program that provided intensive professional training to sharpen trial advocacy skills. 

A litigator who concentrates on premises and products liability, personal injury, and general corporate law in Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd’s Greenville office, Mattingly is the founding president of the National Bar Association’s Donald James Sampson Chapter that is comprised of members from the 10 counties of Upstate South Carolina.  Founded in 2007, this chapter currently has 45 members and is named for one of the first minority lawyers to practice in Greenville. Mattingly was re-elected president at the installation meeting on June 26, which honored the newly elected officers and 2008 summer law clerks.

The National Bar Association is the oldest and largest organization for the African-American legal community and represents a professional network of more than 44,000 attorneys, judges, educators and law students.  According to the NBA, its objectives include the advancement of the science of jurisprudence; improvement of the administration of justice; preserving the independence of the judiciary and to uphold the honor and integrity of the legal profession. The association also promotes professional and social interaction among the members of the American and international bars, promotes legislation to improve the economic condition of all Americans, regardless of race, sex or creed, thereby protecting the civil and political rights of U.S. citizens.
