Healthcare on Wheels: St. James Health and Wellness introduces new mobile clinic

August 8, 2026

St. James Health and Wellness is expanding its community reach with the launch of a new mobile care unit designed to bring essential healthcare services directly to local residents throughout Georgetown County.

Dr. James Simmons presented details about the mobile medical unit during the organization’s third annual Compassion Brunch event on Saturday morning, highlighting the center’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare access across the region.

“This mobile medical unit allows us to meet people right where they are. By bringing high-quality primary care, screenings, and essential wellness services directly into our neighborhoods, we can break down transportation barriers and ensure every resident in our community has access to the care they deserve,” said Simmons, who serves as Chief Medical Officer at St. James.

The mobile unit will extend the range of services currently offered at the organization’s Santee-Sampit site, including primary care for adults and pediatrics, chronic disease management, well-child visits, immunizations, and various health screenings. Additionally, the unit aims to bridge care gaps by offering counseling, nutrition advice, vision screenings, discount medication access, and transportation assistance.
