Only South Carolina Hospital to Receive Top 50 Ranking

Bon Secours St. Francis Health System’s two hospitals have been recognized as the best in South Carolina by Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems.

The organization announced the Healthgrades America’s Best Hospitals list – which included St. Francis Downtown and St. Francis Eastside as recipients of the America’s 50 Best Hospitals Awards™. Those hospitals represent the top one percent of hospitals in the nation that demonstrate superior performance for the most common procedures and conditions year-after-year.

“Sustaining a high level of care is challenging and requires a hospital-wide commitment and a ‘patient-first’ culture. We applaud these elite hospitals on being recognized as the best in the nation,” said Brad Bowman, M.D., Healgrades chief medical officer. “With increasing awareness on the importance of hospital quality, this information is a vital resource for consumers when it comes to selecting a hospital for their specific care needs.”

Healthgrades America’s Best Hospital Awards analyzed the performance of nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide across 32 conditions and procedures, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, respiratory failure, sepsis and stroke. Overall patients treated in hospitals named as America’s Best Hospitals™ have, on average, a 26.6 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award.

This recognition is proof that Bon Secours is living up to its mission of extending the compassionate ministry of Jesus by improving the health and well-being of our communities, and bringing good help

to those in need. It’s an honor for me to serve alongside all of our Greenville associates – the people who go above and beyond on a daily basis to ensure the best care possible in every respect. That commitment results in the outstanding care that can truly change the lives of our patients,” said Matt Caldwell, president of Bon Secours’ Greenville market.

Bon Secours St. Francis Health System was the only hospital in South Carolina to be recognized as a top 50 hospital, and it was the only one in the Upstate to make the top 250.
