May 14, 2025The Healthy Learners Board of Directors announces the departure in good standing of Executive Director Amy Splittgerber, concluding five years of distinguished leadership and service. Her tenure has been marked by extraordinary growth, innovation, and a lasting impact across South Carolina.
Since joining Healthy Learners in 2019, Amy played a pivotal role in expanding the organization’s reach and effectiveness, advancing its mission to remove health barriers to learning for children in need. Under her guidance, Healthy Learners blended clinical efficiency with a compassionate approach, strengthening its connection to the communities it serves. One of her hallmark achievements was securing critical funding that enabled Healthy Learners to double its operational capacity. This expansion included the recruitment of Spanish-speaking staff to better serve South Carolina’s growing Hispanic population and ensure more equitable access to services.
“Amy has led Healthy Learners with energy and concern for our mission, always encouraging initiative from staff and supporting them in carrying out the CSA founding mission to eradicate children’s health barriers to learning,” said Sister Nancy Hendershot.

The Board of Trustees will launch a comprehensive search for the next Executive Director in the coming weeks, ensuring a thoughtful and inclusive process that honors the mission and momentum of the organization.
About Healthy Learners
Healthy Learners is on a mission to transform the futures of children in poverty in South Carolina. Research has proven that education is the key for children to go further in life. It empowers them to obtain higher-wage jobs, make positive life choices, and learn to invest in their future communities to make them stronger, healthier, and vibrant. For many children in poverty, their educational success is at risk because of fixable healthcare challenges that have not been addressed, known as Health Barriers to Learning. Healthy Learners was created to address these challenges head-on and serve as the catalyst to ensure every child receives the health care they need to thrive in school. Healthy Learners works collaboratively with communities, schools, healthcare providers, and families to remove health barriers to learning through screening, referral, and access to medical services. Healthy Learners serves Pre-K through 12th grade students to improve academic and health-related outcomes.
