Healthy Learners welcomes four new board members

Healthy Learners, a faith-based non-profit that connects school-aged children to health care providers to help remove barriers to school success, announces four new members to the Healthy Learners Board of Trustees. They are: Sister Roberta Fulton, SSMN, Thomas Keith, R. Langston Spotts and Matt Younginer.
“Sister Roberta, Tom, Langston and Matt are excellent additions to the Healthy Learners Board of Trustees. They each have diverse skill sets, multifaceted backgrounds and a commitment to furthering the mission of Healthy Learners as we work to narrow the tremendous health disparities facing children who are without resources in South Carolina,” said Amy Splittgerber, executive director of Healthy Learners.
New to the board:
Sister Roberta Fulton, SSMN, is the assistant director for African-American evangelization in the Diocese of Charleston Office of Ethnic Ministries. In this role,she promotes evangelization in traditionally African-American parishes and schools in the diocese. She spreads the Gospel through retreats, leadership training, youth sessions, racial diversity discussions and other activities. Previously, she was the principal of St. Martin de Porres School in Columbia. She has also served as principal at schools in Alabama, Texas and New York. Sister Roberta is the diocesan representative to the South Carolina Christian Action Council and is president of the National Conference of Black Sisters.
Thomas C. “Tom” Keith is president of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, a position he has held since 1996. Under his leadership, the foundation has awarded $75 million in grants across the state to more than 2,900 non-profit organizations. Keith is a past board member of Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities (FADICA), Southeastern Council of Foundations, Grantmakers in Health, and Access to Justice
Commission. He is past chair of the South Carolina Grantmakers Network. He currently serves on the boards of the Columbia Free Medical Clinic and South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families, and is the incoming board chair at Columbia College. Keith received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Marshall University and a Master of Business Administration from Winthrop College.
Langston Spotts is the CEO of Columbia Eye Clinic and Columbia Eye Surgery Center. Previously, he was assistant vice president for cardiovascular administration at Lexington Medical Center and CEO at Columbia Cardiology, LLC. He has also held a variety of financial administrative roles for Lexington Medical Center, High Point Regional Health System in North Carolina and Lexington Memorial Hospital in North Carolina. Spotts has served as an adjunct instructor at the University of South Carolina, Arnold School of Public Health. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives and the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in healthcare administration, both from the University of South Carolina.
Matt Younginer is national accounts manager for Husqvarna Construction Products, where he supports the company’s diverse customer base from New York to Seattle. He started with Husqvarna in 1995 and has held positions of increasing responsibility while receiving numerous sales awards along the way.Matt also has extensive broadcasting experience as an on-air personality for multiple sports talk shows in the Columbia region, and as the public address announcer for Gamecock Baseball and the play-by-play voice for Gamecock Soccer, both from 2003 to 2009. Matt is in his fourth year as the co-chair of the Healthy Learners Champions for Children Golf Tournament in Memory of George Younginer. His father George created the annual golf tournament in 1999. Matt received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of South Carolina.
