The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, which is the leading non-profit organization focused on pioneering approaches to fight all cancers that impact women, announced the appointment of Heather F. Smith to its board of directors. With her comprehensive experience in legislative affairs and strong dedication to community service, Smith contributes substantial expertise to the organization, which has been a vital player for over 16 years, bringing communities together in the battle against cancer.

Smith, who graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications, has an esteemed career in public policy and advocacy. In January 2023, she launched Heather Smith and Associates, LLC, where she continues to formulate government affairs strategies and lobby elected representatives to shape public policy on behalf of her clients.

Her commitment to community service is further highlighted by her receipt of the University of South Carolina Distinguished Service Award in 2024. Additionally, Smith was honored as the 2017 South Carolina Global Business Awards Partner of the Year and received the Jerry Kramer NFL Child ID 2022 Child Advocate of the Year Award from the NFL Alumni and Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“I am profoundly honored to be a part of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund board,” Smith stated. “With a family history of cancer, particularly among women, it is one of my objectives to fight for a cure and to assist in educating women about the significance of early detection.”

Since the establishment of the Fund, $8.78 million has been allocated to scientific research grants and initiatives aimed at supporting underserved populations in the fight against all cancers that affect women.

In her struggle with stage IV cancer, Hall of Fame coach Kay Yow left her enduring legacy — the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Over the past 16 years, the Fund has acted as a catalyst, bringing together diverse communities in this critical fight.

“We are thrilled to welcome Heather F. Smith to our board,” said Jenny Palmateer, CEO, Her expertise in legislative affairs and her passion for supporting the fight against cancer will be invaluable as we continue to expand our programs and impact in the United States.”
