HGTC President Dr. Marilyn “Murph” Fore to retire after 51 years of service
April 23, 2026Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) President Dr. Marilyn “Murph” Fore has announced her retirement after 51 years of service to the College, effective July 31, 2026.
Dr. Fore has served as president of Horry-Georgetown Technical College since 2017, leading the institution through a period of sustained growth, expanded academic offerings, and strengthened partnerships across Horry and Georgetown counties. Her career at the College began as a faculty member, and over more than five decades, she has played a significant role in shaping the institution’s mission and impact.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve this institution,” said Fore. “I am deeply grateful to the Area Commission, faculty, and staff whose dedication and commitment have made this College such a strong impact on our communities. Together, we have achieved meaningful milestones and made a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of students.”
Under Fore’s leadership, the College has experienced significant enrollment growth, expanded workforce development initiatives, and strengthened transfer partnerships to support student success and regional economic development. Her tenure reflects a deep commitment to access, opportunity, and student achievement.
The Horry-Georgetown Technical College Area Commission will form a search committee to begin the process of identifying the College’s next president. Additional details regarding the transition will be shared as they become available.

Dr. Fore will continue to serve as president through July 31, 2026, ensuring a smooth and thoughtful leadership transition.
