Historic Courthouse Square Gets Fresh Look, 14 New Parking Spaces in Downtown Laurens
July 7, 2026Downtown Laurens has a refreshed centerpiece following improvements to the Historic Courthouse Square that city officials say enhance both the appearance and function of the district.
The City of Laurens announced that the square received new sealcoating and updated parking striping, giving the heart of downtown a crisp, updated look. The project also added 14 new parking spaces, expanding capacity in the busy commercial core.
Completing the work required closing the inner streets around the square for the duration of the project. The closure began Monday, July 6, at 8 a.m. and continued through the end of the day Tuesday, July 7. Affected areas included East and West Laurens streets up to the square, East and West Public Square, and the inner courthouse parking area surrounding the square.
KW Asphalt and Concrete Services completed the work. City officials thanked the company for its efforts and expressed appreciation to residents and visitors for their patience while the project was underway.
The improvements are part of the city’s ongoing commitment to downtown beautification. Officials said they remain focused on investing in the community and creating a downtown that residents, businesses, and visitors can enjoy for years to come.
