Historic Spigner House Acheieves Gold Leed® Certification

January 4, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – January 4, 2013 – Located on Gregg Street, the Spigner House is a Georgian Revival style two-story home with a partial basement originally built in 1915.  The landmark was conveyed to the university by Mrs. Spigner in 1963.  Currently vacant and contributing to the University Hill National Register Historic District, the renovation of the Spigner House presents a new opportunity for its location on University of South Carolina’s campus.

In collaboration with the university, The Boudreaux Group’s design team set a goal of Silver LEED Certification through the achievement of requirements prescribed within the LEED® rating systems maintained by the U.S. Green Building Council.  After awarding the Spigner House with 65 points out of a possible 110, the renovation has reached a Gold LEED® Certification for Commercial Interiors.

The certification maintains that the Spigner House successfully addressed water efficiency, optimized energy efficiency, waste management, and alternative transportation to the site.  Indoor environmental quality accounted for points earned toward increased ventilation, low-emitting materials, and controllability of both lighting and heating systems.   The Boudreaux Group was also awarded points for meeting criterion on innovative design and included a LEED® Accredited Professional on the project.

The Boudreaux Group, a full-service architecture, planning and interior design firm located in downtown Columbia, led the design for the system renovations and the interior furnishings.  The renovation was completed in November of this year.
