Home Works of America celebrates grant from Wells Fargo

January 21, 2016

Home Works of America is pleased to announce a $10,000 donation  from Wells Fargo, purposed toward supporting home repairs and homeowners in Columbia SC (Richland County).  The mission of Home Works of America is “to show God’s love through service to others, by repairing the homes of elderly and disabled homeowners, assisting youth in their development, and empowering communities to care for their own members.”  Since 1996, Home Works has repaired more than 2,600 homes through 38,000 volunteers.

“Building strong and vibrant communities, making a positive difference and improving the quality of life for everyone is a mission Wells Fargo has always believed is important,” said Wells Fargo Midlands Market President Holt Chetwood. “We are proud to support Home Works of America in their efforts to empower our community by repairing homes in need and assisting youth in their development. As America’s Community Bank, investing in our communities is one of the most important things we can do as a company.”

Home Works of America is navigating a critical season of growth, in thanks to Wells Fargo and other corporate partners.  The devastating flooding from October 2015 has radically increased the need for safe and affordable housing across the Midlands, and volunteer service organizations like Home Works of America feel a burden of responsibility to respond creatively.  Having repaired more than 800 homes of low-income homeowners across the Midlands, in December 2015 Home Works launched its first flood collaborative rebuild initiative – ReBuild Together.

“Home Works of America was privileged to serve as a catalyst and avenue for community collaboration.  Over three days, twelve families whose homes had been damaged by the flooding event received home repairs and were immediately impacted by 440 youth and adult volunteers, two home repair organizations, and dozens of community partners.  Home Works’ goal is that quality construction and communal compassion intersect at every home we serve,” said Jim Powell, Executive Director. “The ReBuild Together event accomplished just that, and is only the first step for our organization.   With God’s help and through community partnership, we will continue to bring hope to families who have lost so much – one home at a time.”

About Home Works of America

Home Works of America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1996.  Our mission is to show God’s love through service to others, by repairing the homes of homeowners in need, assisting youth in their development, and empowering communities to meet the needs of their own members.  Since 1996, more than 38,000 youth and adult volunteers have helped repair 2,600 homes across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.  At every Home Works project, we work to create a context in which youth and adult volunteers intersect poverty stricken homeowners in a context of mutual transformation.
