Homeless No More to hold Holiday Shop for families on December 11th

December 7, 2023

Homeless No More will hold its annual Holiday Shop for the homeless families with children at Family Shelter and St. Lawrence Place on Monday, December 11th.

The Holiday Shop gives the families of HNM the opportunity to “shop” for each other instead of the usual “adopt a family” approach, allowing families a sense of independence. The event is a 20-year tradition inspired by Warren Village, a similar non-profit organization serving homeless and at-risk families in Colorado.

“Our homeless families cherish the same Christmas memories you and I cherish,” said Dr. Lila Anna Sauls, president and CEO of Homeless No More. “They want to make lists. They want to choose the perfect gifts for their children. They want to feel as though they have a role in their family’s holiday. And thanks to the generosity of churches, individuals, community groups and corporations from across the Midlands, our families will get that opportunity.”

In addition to shopping, there will also be a hot-chocolate stand and a gift-wrapping station. The shop will be open to the parents and children from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Homeless No More’s Education Building located at 1705 McFadden Street. The day will end with a meal for the families provided by First Calvary Baptist Church.

Ways to support the annual Holiday Shop include donating new, unwrapped gifts for children, teens and adults or purchasing gifts from Homeless No More’s Amazon Wish List. Volunteers are needed to wrap gifts and organize donations. Monetary donations to financially support the work being done at Homeless No More are also welcome.
