Horry-Georgetown Technical College launches national presidential search; invites public input via community survey

The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) Area Commission officially announced today the launch of a national search to identify the college’s next President. The Area Commission is fully committed to an equitable, inclusive, and transparent process designed to attract a highly competitive and diverse pool of leadership candidates from across South Carolina and the nation.
To assist with this critical transition, the college has selected the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), a premier national organization with a proven track record of facilitating more than 750 community college leadership searches. Mr. Kennon Briggs will serve as the dedicated ACCT Search Consultant guiding HGTC through the selection process.
Community Survey: Shape the Presidential Profile
An essential first step in the search is defining the qualities, experience, and leadership traits required of the next president. HGTC invites employees, students, alumni, and members of the surrounding communities to share their perspectives through a brief, anonymous electronic survey.
The feedback gathered from this survey will directly inform the development of the official Presidential Profile used to recruit candidates.

Next Steps and Public Forums
The newly formed Presidential Search Committee will review all confidential applications, conduct initial interviews, and select top semifinalists.
In September 2026, final candidates will visit HGTC to participate in a series of open public forums. These forums will offer college staff, students, and local residents a direct opportunity to meet the finalists and submit feedback to the Area Commission before a final decision is made. Specific dates, times, and campus locations for the forums will be announced as they are confirmed.
