Hot meals are resuming next week for Meals on Wheels clients in Richland County and volunteers are needed

June 26, 2020

Next Tuesday, June 30, we will resume the daily delivery of hot meals to our Meals on Wheels clients in Richland County. Meals on Wheels provides home-delivered meals to elderly, frail, and home-bound residents at lunch time five days a week by caring volunteers. At the onset of the pandemic in mid-March, we began weekly deliveries of frozen meals, to limit contact between volunteers and clients.

As we transition back to daily deliveries of hot meals, we are looking for volunteer Meals on Wheels drivers on weekdays beginning next Tuesday. The staff at Senior Resources will provide a training on safe methods for contactless delivery, that will protect both the volunteer and the homebound senior receiving the meal. All volunteers are required to wear a mask. The daily delivery from our volunteer not only delivers a hot meal, but also serves as a wellness check, and a continued connection to the community through a friendly interaction with the Meals on Wheels client.

Volunteers are needed at the following meal distribution sites:

  • Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, 125 Sparkleberry Lane, Columbia, SC 29229. Volunteers are needed beginning June 30. Pickup for delivery is 10:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m.
  • Senior Resources main office, 2817 Millwood Ave., Columbia, SC 29205. Volunteers are needed beginning July 1. Pickup for delivery is 10:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m.
  • Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1715 Broad River Rd., Columbia, SC 29210. Volunteers are needed beginning July 2. Pickup for delivery is 10:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m.

We welcome volunteers on a one-time or ongoing basis.
