Budget Committee Funds Infrastructure, Reduces Debt

COLUMBIA, SC – The House Ways and Means Committee adopted H. 4230, a supplemental appropriations bill, by a vote of 23-0.  The bill was introduced to utilize new revenue certified Friday by the Board of Economic Advisors.

Faced with $302 million in new general fund revenue, the committee voted to put $220 million in road infrastructure needs, paid down economic development debt and gave the Treasurer’s Office the ability to pay down further debt that would save the state money.  Chairman Brian White (District 6-Anderson) released the following statement:

“The Ways and Means committee funded $220 million in infrastructure, expanded tax credits for the education of special needs children and paid down additional debt.  This bill addresses critical needs while maintaining a theme of fiscal responsibility and prudent budgeting,” stated Chairman White.
