How Many Fans Could Fit in a Stadium?

August 11, 2016

Spartanburg Has Welcomed More Than 100,000 Fans

There’s only one football stadium in the United States that can hold the number of fans who have visited the Carolina Panthers Training Camp in Spartanburg this summer.

And, it’s not Bank of America Stadium (75,419 capacity).  Not even Clemson’s Frank Howard Field (81,500) nor Williams-Brice Stadium at the University of South Carolina in Columbia (80,250) can hold the Panthers fans that have attended the first 10 practices at Wofford College. There have been 107,518 fans at Panthers practices through August 9.

The only football stadium in America that can handle that many people is the “Big House” at the University of Michigan (107,601 capacity)—barely!  To put that in perspective, this year’s training camp attendance exceeds the capacity at the four other largest college stadiums in the country: Penn State (106,572); Ohio State (104,944); Texas A&M (102,733), and Neyland Stadium at the University of Tennessee (102,455).  The largest NFL stadium is the Coliseum in Los Angeles at 93,607.

Only four more practice days remain, beginning again at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 13.  Maybe by the end of the 2016 Panthers Training Camp, Spartanburg will have hosted more than Churchill Downs (120,000), or Atlanta Motor Speedway (125,000). Stuff like this only happens in a place that’s truly revolutionary.  Come see for yourself.
