Supplier To The Transportation Industry Investing $8.6 Million To Expand, Creating An Expected 50 New Jobs

COLUMBIA, SC – A company that supplies products to the bus, rail and air transportation industries is expanding its operations in Charleston County. Hubner Manufacturing Corporation is investing $8.6 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Mount Pleasant, S.C. The investment is expected to create 50 new jobs.

Founded in 1995 in Mount Pleasant, S.C., Hubner USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Germany-based Hübner GmbH & Co. KG. As a worldwide firm, Hübner employs approximately 2,000 workers in 12 different countries. Hubner USA’s mission is to be the industry leader in high quality synergistic products for the public transportation industry. Among the company’s product lines are passageway systems for high speed and commuter trains, articulation, passageway and bumper systems for light rail vehicles (LRV) and trams, folding bellows and articulation systems for articulating buses, canopies for jet gangways and flexible covers and rubber extrusions for applications in public transportation.

Hubner USA last expanded its Charleston County operations in 2010. This latest expansion, a 55,261 square-foot addition to the current 100,000 square-foot facility, will allow the company to meet the growing demand for its products. Located at 450 Wando Blvd. in Mount Pleasant, the facility is Hübner’s only U.S. operation.

Construction of the facility expansion is expected to be completed by the end of 2015. Hiring for most of the new positions is anticipated to take place in the first quarter of 2016. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved a $350,000 grant for real property improvements and job development credits related to the project.
