Hudson elected pres. of national association representing state defense forces

December 16, 2012

COLUMBIA, SC – December 16, 2012 – Brig. Gen. Herman J. Hudson, S.C. State Guard (Ret.) – special projects officer with the S.C. Military Dept. and a combat-experienced U.S. Army Ranger – has been elected president of the State Guard Association of the United States (SGAUS).

The election of Hudson comes as SGAUS, representing some 23 all-volunteer state defense forces nationwide, prepares for its 30th annual conference and symposium to be held in Charleston, Oct. 16-20, 2013.

Brig. Gen. Joe Hudson is the right man for the job, says Maj. Gen. F. Eli Wishart, former commander of the S.C. State Guard and a retired U.S. Army Special Forces officer. The combination of his proven military leadership and business success make him the perfect choice to lead SGAUS as we ramp up legislative efforts in support of state defense forces nationwide and prepare for the SGAUS national convention next year.

Hudson’s distinguished military career spanning 31 years includes combat-action as a parachute-infantry soldier with the famed 173rd Airborne Brigade during the Vietnam War, stints as a U.S. Army drill sergeant and a Ranger school instructor. He also served in military intelligence, recruiting, as a tactical air controller, and in various other posts, including tactical nuclear weapons systems. Moreover, Hudson served on the post-Vietnam special committee that developed what was to become the all volunteer Army, and he was 3rd Brigade commander, S.C. State Guard.

A Walterboro, S.C.-native, Hudson is a graduate of Walterboro High School. He received his baccalaureate degree from Columbia (MO) College and an MBA from Central Michigan University. His post-Army professional achievements include a successful career in finance, sales, and as a regional human resources director with NCR Corporation (acquired in 1991 by AT&T Corporation, and for a short period operating under the name AT&T Global Information Solutions).

In 1992, Hudson founded HudsonMann, a S.C.-based human resources consulting firm, which has since grown from a single-client operation to include a presence in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The election of Hudson as SGAUS pres. is a natural progression for the General.

It is an honor to have been elected pres. of SGAUS, say Hudson in a published statement. I pledge to work tirelessly for every member of state guards, state defense forces, state military reserves, state maritime units, and SGAUS throughout the coming year.

Hudson was elected (and sworn-in) SGAUS pres. at the 2012 annual conference in Nashville, Tenn., last month.

The 2013 conference, under Hudson’s direction, has been billed as the 2013 National DSCA (Defense Support of Civil Authorities) Symposium: Managing Disasters and Utilizing Federal Agencies, First Responders and Volunteers.
