Huge Foundation establishes Mohr/Huge Scholarship at The Citadel

Annually awarded cadet scholarship created to honor Huge Foundation’s Lawrence C. Mohr
CHARLESTON, SC – The Harry and Reba Huge Foundation announced that beginning this fall it will provide a scholarship for full tuition to one cadet entering The Citadel from high school. The Dr. Lawrence C. Mohr/Huge Scholarship was created by Harry and Reba Huge to honor their long-time friend and Huge Foundation Board member Dr. Lawrence C. Mohr of Charleston.
“I am both humbled and honored that this prestigious Harry and Reba Huge Foundation scholarship will bear my name,” said Mohr. “I am especially delighted that the scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding cadet. The Citadel has a proven and profound history of developing principled leaders for our nation that is matched by very few colleges. To be associated with this great institution in such a special way is an honor beyond words.”
The Harry and Reba Huge Foundation, which has established similar scholarships at Nebraska Wesleyan University and the College of Charleston, provides outstanding opportunities to students who demonstrate a drive and desire to succeed.

Rosa. “In addition to significant financial support, cadet recipients will receive exceptional mentoring and international exchange opportunities that will enhance their development as principled leaders at The Citadel and beyond.”
A distinctive feature of the Huge Scholarships is that recipients receive not only financial support to cover their full educational costs, but also unparalleled personal attention, guidance, and mentoring from the Huge family, the foundation’s directors, and the staff. Through these and other enhancements such as extensive opportunities to travel abroad, Huge Scholars are able to expand their frame of reference by experiencing different cultures and encountering people from across the United States and around the world.

In addition to being a Huge foundation board member, Mohr is a professor of medicine, biometry and epidemiology, and director of the Environmental Biosciences Program at the Medical University of South Carolina. After a distinguished military career, he received his A.B. and M.D. degrees from the University of North Carolina, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Mohr completed his post-doctoral medical training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. From 1987 to 1993, Dr. Mohr served as White House Physician on the staffs of President Ronald Reagan and President George H. W. Bush. In this assignment, he had responsibility for providing comprehensive medical care to the President of the United States and his family. Mohr will provide mentoring and guidance for the scholarship recipients.
