Hulsey Appointed to State Board of Nursing

CHARLESTON, SC – June 26, 2012 – The South Carolina Senate has confirmed Dr. Tara Hulsey’s appointment to the South Carolina State Board of Nursing. Her term expires December 31, 2015.

Hulsey, dean of the Derry Patterson Wingo School of Nursing at Charleston Southern University, represents the 1st Congressional District.

The South Carolina State Board of Nursing licenses qualified individuals and protects the public health, safety and welfare by assuring safe and competent practice of nursing. 

In addition to her role as dean of the School of Nursing, Hulsey is chair of the United Nations and Global Health Advisory Council for Sigma Theta Tau International, the honor society for nursing.

She is a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow Alumnus (2006-2009) and is a national consultant for the RWJ funded Quality and Safety Education in Nursing initiative, in which the Derry Patterson Wingo School of Nursing was one of 15 pilot schools in the country.

She has received more than $2 million in funded research and project grants and has published in the areas of unwanted pregnancy, infant mortality, low birth weight and maternal pregnancy behaviors. Hulsey has presented at local, regional, national and international levels.
