Humanities 101: Explore Philosophy, Literature, Film and Theater with USC faculty
April 24, 2026The University of South Carolina Humanities Collaborative will host Humanities 101, a community program on May 2 from 8:30 a.m. — 1 p.m. at the University Conference Center, 8th floor of the Close-Hipp Building.
The event will feature introductory class sessions led by USC faculty in philosophy, literature, film and theater. Participants will choose from multiple sessions that include group discussion, short lectures and hands-on activities.
Session topics include a philosophical discussion of the meaning of free will, a workshop on miniature theatre design, coming-of-age literature in the Caribbean diaspora with guided writing prompts, and an introduction to film and media analysis in cultural context.
The event is open to the public, as well as university faculty, staff and administrators. Lunch will be provided, and books by USC humanities faculty will be available for purchase.
Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a welcome at 9 a.m. The first class session runs from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a break. The second session is scheduled from 10:45 a.m. to noon. The program concludes with lunch and a roundtable discussion with faculty from noon to 1 p.m.
