Improving Healthcare Quality in SC: A Talk with Dr. Jay Moskowitz at Science Café on January 8, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – December 28, 2012 – EngenuitySCs popular Science Café networking event and lecture series continues, with a talk on the latest healthcare quality innovations by SmartState Endowed Chair, Dr. Jay Moskowitz, on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Speakeasy cocktail bar in Five Points.

In a relaxed, pub environment which encourages audience questions and discussion, Dr. Moskowitz will discuss improving health care quality for South Carolinians at the HCQ Center and Health Sciences South Carolina, in connection with Mental Wellness Month.

Free admission, cash bar and a convivial atmosphere are hallmarks of Science Café, home to The Year of the SmartState – a new, yearlong partnership between EngenuitySC and the SmartState ProgramTM (also known as the South Carolina Centers of Economic Excellence Program).

He holds the James B. Duke SmartState Endowed Chair for Health Care Quality at the University of South Carolina. Under this position he has forged many collaborations that have paved the way for more than 100 organizations and individuals to develop a single, unified plan for securing federal funding for and implementation of a statewide health information technology strategy. This effort alone brought more than $5 million in federal grants to South Carolina.

Dr. Moskowitz is working with IT companies, health care systems, physicians and researchers to create a statewide health information exchange which will not only support clinical research, but also enhance the quality and safety of patient care.

On the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., knowledge economy movers and shakers convene at Science Café at Speakeasy to enjoy high quality adult beverages and hear free talks by some of South Carolina’s top leaders in medicine, technology and innovation.
