Ingles and Milkco present $5661 donation to Harvest Hope

September 28, 2015

GREENVILLE, SC – Today Ingles and Milkco donated money and more than 1,000 gallons of nutrient power-house milk to Harvest Hope Food Bank. The $5661 donation will provide milk to families in Greenville and Laurens counties. Milk packs eight ounces of protein and nine essential nutrients in each glass.

“Milk is one of the least-donated and most-requested items at Harvest Hope Food Bank,” said
Denise Holland, CEO of Harvest Hope Food Bank. “On average, clients receive the equivalent of less than one gallon of milk per person per year. This generous donation from Ingles and Milkco helps us put a good, healthy product on our clients’ tables.”

“We saw this as an opportunity to lend a hand,” said Ron Freeman, Ingles Chief Financial Officer. “We know that milk is in high demand for families, seniors and children who need it the most. Providing fresh, perishable food to those in need is an important part of our commitment at Ingles.”

Earlier in August, Ingles launched its “Stand Up to Hunger with Milk” campaign as part of September National Hunger Action Month.

“People are generous with canned and dry goods, but many don’t think to donate milk because it’s perishable,” said Freeman. “Ingles’ customers can donate milk two ways, by either selecting a $1 donation card at checkout or via peel-away labels on Laura Lynn Fluid milk gallons. All donations will be converted into coupons for milk and distributed to local food banks.”

“Ingles has been and continues to be a great partner to many of our different programs,” said Holland. “This year they’ve donated more than 22,000 pounds for food to help feed disadvantaged people in our community.”

In South Carolina one in five citizens has missed a meal over the past year because they lacked resources to purchase food, according to Holland. Partnerships with businesses like Ingles and individual donations from private citizens go a long way in helping fight hunger in South Carolina. Harvest Hope’s Greenville location serves Greenville and Laurens counties.
