InnoVenture Chair and Swamp Fox Founder, John Warner, designated as an SCRA Knowledge Economist at Greenville Conference

March 26, 2009

GREENVILLE, SC – March 26, 2009 – SCRA CEO Bill Mahoney named John Warner as an SCRA Knowledge Economist Tuesday at the InnoVenture conference in Greenville. Mahoney recognized Warner for his contributions to South Carolina’s Knowledge Economy, which creates high-salaried technology jobs, nurtures new ventures and capital investment, and builds equity for the future – a perfect parallel to Warner’s InnoVenture conference, which brings together South Carolina entrepreneurs, investors, a state-wide business community and academia thought leaders.

Warner, CEO of Jute Networks LLC, chair of InnoVenture and founder of Swamp Fox, accepted the award and then explained the power of Jute, with which Swamp Fox LLC merged in 2008, during his mid-day presentation:

“People seek to build strong personal relationships because most work gets done in small critical networks of trusted colleagues. While the Internet is a powerful new tool for building relationships globally, many people are becoming overwhelmed with a deluge of information. There is a growing demand for a simple, intuitive tool to help manage and grow the in person and online aspects of critical networks.

Swamp Fox has built one of the country’s largest innovation communities, with diverse participation from industry, academia, entrepreneurs, investors, and service providers. Jute Networks has created a leading technology platform to help individuals manage their critical networks, with a particular strength in the visualization of relationships.”

The SCRA Knowledge Economist Award Program recognizes outstanding citizens who have made significant contributions to South Carolina’s Knowledge Economy “where the value of the mind shapes the successful profile of progress,” said Mahoney. “Part of SCRA’s role in its dedication to South Carolina’s Knowledge Economy is to recognize those outstanding citizens in our society who have made significant contributions to Knowledge Economy advancement,” he said.

To confirm that its knowledge economy efforts are being realized, a study by The University of South Carolina Moore School of Business cited SCRA’s 2007 contribution to economic development at $1.4 billion, encompassing more than 11,000 jobs with per capita incomes of $55,000-$77,000.
